Soriaya and Jabar

Soriaya and Jabar have been foster carers for eleven years. They transferred from an Independent Fostering Agency to Waltham Forest council last year and currently have three foster children.

“We transferred to Waltham Forest because we were not receiving many referrals for young people needing a safe home as well as not receiving as much support as we expected.

“Additionally, Waltham Forest offered great benefits such as the Council Tax discount.

“We are very happy that we transferred to Waltham Forest and very grateful for the support we receive.”

Soriaya and Jabar enjoy caring for older children and they remain part of the young person’s support network after they leave their home:

“We cared for an unaccompanied minor and it has been wonderful to continue to be part of his adult life. We are very proud of him; he works as a chauffeur and has a lovely car. He and his wife are in the process of buying a home and are expecting a child. He shares the same birthday month as Jabar and our birth son, and we always celebrate with a family meal out together.

“We have enjoyed our time so far as Waltham Forest foster carers and are looking forward to many years to come.”

Waltham Forest is part of Local Community Fostering, a network of four northeast London councils aiming to inspire more people to become foster carers. Call 020 8496 3437 or visit localcommunityfostering.co.uk to learn more.
